Meet D’Andrea Virgil

In celebration of Women’s history month, 9Paths has chosen to showcase current Black leaders we have had the privilege to work alongside. Our present is always being influenced by our past. And for these stellar Black female leaders, they share who have influenced their work, why they believe in Inclusion, and how to find visibility in a world where you may be unnoticed.

Who is D’Andrea Virgil?

Meet D’Andrea Virgil. D’Andrea is the Human Resource Shared Services Employee Relations Manager – Overseeing the North American and Philippine HRSS Employee Relations, HR Compliance, and HR Policy Team for Chevron Corporation in Houston, Texas. This role includes managing non-complex employee relations investigations, overseeing HR policy compliance with relevant employment laws and regulations, and managing required employment compliance reporting.

D’ Andrea’s organization has undergone an incredible business transformation due to the economic environment and the impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic. As a new team leader, D’ Andrea was tasked with implementing a new ER service delivery model. She knew it was critical to foster a sense of belonging for her globally dispersed team. Success depended on creating an inclusive team in this new virtual environment. And ensure each team member had a local base of HR professionals to connect with physically once we’re able to safely return to the office. D’ Andrea created the needed inclusive environment through thoughtful, intentionality, and shared a shared team vision.

I met D’Andrea while teaching her non-profit board how to use the Enneagram. She serves as the 12th president of the award-winning chapter of the South Belt Houston Chapter of Jack & Jill of America, Inc. I immediately knew this woman could take on significant challenges and champion those vulnerable.

D’ Andrea resonates strongly with Enneagram Type 8. She is strong, direct, resourceful, with an innate ability to carry challenging projects or tasks. Attuned to the world’s social injustices, she advocates for the world to be a better place.

What historical person or persons have influenced or motivated you to keep going?

Serving as president of this chapter includes 96 Active Mothers, 150 Children, 60 Father Auxiliary Members, and 65 Associate members. Jack & Jill of America, Inc. are mothers who are dedicated to raising the next generation of African American leaders while enhancing all children’s lives. These influential mothers accomplish their mission by offering diverse programs focused on leadership development, cultural exposure, community service, legislative advocacy, and philanthropic giving.

D’Andrea’s influencer is Dorothy Height. Ms. Height was a tireless Activist for Civil and Women’s rights, Past National President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.(I’m an active member), and Past National President of The National Council of Negro Women. Favorite Quote: “I want to be remembered as one who tried.”
