Meet Seema Patel
In celebration of Asian American Pacific Islander Month, we are proud to feature one of the 9Paths staff members, Seema Patel. Seema is a resident in training for 9Paths working towards her master’s degree in clinical counseling. Seema is an Enneagram Type 2, bringing warmth, compassion, and intuition to our team and clients. Seema’s high emotional intelligence allows our clients to be seen, heard, and feel safe with her.
Seema’s career was influenced by noticing the heavy stigma around mental health and a lack of mental health awareness in her South Asian community as a teenager. She quickly realized a need for counselors in minority communities to raise awareness of the mental health challenges in their communities. Seema’s desire to help meet that need motivated her to begin her career.
Seema, raised in a very religious family guided by her parents, instilled the principle of being “human first, then religious.” For Seema, this being human means being compassionate, understanding, and empathetic towards each other. Seema believes compassion, understanding, and empathy are vital to living in solidarity.
Seema is motivated by this quote when she finds the world’s challenges discouraging, “When I look at the world I’m pessimistic, but when I look at people I am optimistic.” -Carl Rogers
